Counting to ten never worked for me, I just got angrier every second I counted off.

I always liked what Ben Franklin said in his autobiography. He had a list of 13 virtues he tried to live by. Here's what he said about virtue number 11, Tranquility.  "Be not disturbed at trifles or at accidents common or unavoidable."

One more saying I've never forgotten that helps proactively is, "Set peace of mind as your highest goal and organize your entire life around it."</description>
